Costumes. Candy. Spooky stories. Ghoulish games. These are some of the many reasons kids look forward to Halloween every year. And as adults, we look forward to seeing our kids adorably dressed up as witches and wizards, vampires and zombies, fairies and superheroes – and anything else they can imagine.

This is National Childhood Injury Prevention Week, which means it’s a great time to brush up on a few of the easiest things parents can do to keep their kids safe. When it comes to safety for your children, you already know the basics: buckle up, wear a helmet, learn to swim, look both ways. Every 10 days, across the United States, a child dies while unattended in a hot car. It only takes a few minutes for a car to heat up and become deadly to a child inside. As summer temperatures rise, more kids are at risk – the death toll this summer has already exceeded 20.
