Nationwide partner blog

We have some exciting news to share. Safe Kids has entered into a new partnership with Nationwide. Our work together will focus on a national initiative to help families stay safe at home, including fire safety, water safety, and preventing poisoning and falls. This will provide Safe Kids with an opportunity to reach even more families with the safety information they need to keep kids safe and prevent injuries.

Safe Kids joined other child safety advocates to press for a law with the vision of collecting information on the whys, hows and numbers of infant death, and to create a nationwide standard for tragedy scene investigations and autopsies. The law is part of the legacy of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg, a relentless fighter for kids. Its passage was thanks to the leadership of his fellow New Jersey lawmaker Frank Pallone, who led the fight in the House of Representatives, and Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-Maine) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).

Keep your kids safe in the pool

Water, summer and kids having fun are synonymous. That was true for me when I was young, whether it involved a swimming pool, the ocean or even a big scoop of water ice in my native Philadelphia.

Teen driver behind the wheel

This month the National Safety Council is observing Distracted Driving Awareness Month and giving us all an important reminder of the potentially tragic consequences to driving while talking or texting. The Council is asking all drivers to stop using cell phones while they drive.

Cover of the Last Akaway book

Every December, my family piles into our 2001 minivan (275,000 miles and counting) and heads to Buffalo to visit my mother-in-law. I call her “Grammy Yes” because whenever my kids asked Grammy a question, the answer was always, “yes.”

“Yes, you can have chocolate-covered potato chips for breakfast.”

“Yes, you can stay up as late as you want.”

Capitol Day Kids

Did you know that the "zip" in "zipcode" means “zoning improvement plan” or that every day 200 billion M & Ms are sold in the United States?

The good thing is that we don't need to know those things.
