Transitions at SAFE KIDS
Employment Opportunities

There are many changes happening at SAFE KIDS.  Steve Hartley and Beverly Farinelli are overseeing the program and effectively implementing its further development.  To support that, we are actively recruiting for two CPS Certification-related positions, Manager, CPS Certification, and Program Assistant, CPS Certification.  Click here to see the job descriptions.  Anyone who is interested in either position should contact Suzanne Cronin at scronin@safekids.org.

SAFE KIDS Says ‘Farewell’

On July 15, Child Passenger Safety Training and Technical Manager Joe Colella will be leaving SAFE KIDS to pursue a private consulting practice in child passenger safety and other traffic safety areas. Thanks to Joe’s talent and expertise, many children will be safer on our roads. We wish him the very best of luck with his future endeavors.  Joe plans to continue acting as a resource for the child passenger safety field.  After July 15, he can be reached at:

7718 Harvest Hills Court
Mount Airy, MD  21771
301-829-8637 (unchanged)
ColellaSafety@adelphia.net

For the next several weeks, Joe will help the Campaign ensure a smooth transition of processes and information, rather than being involved in day-to-day operations.  Please direct inquiries about the SAFE KIDS Certification for the National Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training Program to Steve Hartley at shartley@safekids.org.

Re-Certification Amnesty
Don’t Forget! Act Now!

For those with an expiration date from June 1, 2003, to January 1, 2004, the deadline to register for re-certification is August 1, 2004. You will not be eligible for re-certification after this date, and there will be no exceptions.

Top Five Most Frequently Asked Questions

What is my user name or password?

You need your user name and password to access many parts of the online system.  To obtain your user name and password, you must contact Customer Service at 877-366-8154 (toll-free) or cps.certification@safekids.org.  A customer service representative will ask questions to verify your identity and then either e-mail your information to you or give it to you over the phone.

How do I re-certify?

Re-certification is required every two years for both technicians and instructors. Please note that, before you can proceed to apply for re-certification, you must have completed your practical skills requirements, and your logged seat check activity must have been verified by an instructor.

How can I substitute someone else in my place for a CPS course, and have the payment moved from my record to the other person’s?

Current SAFE KIDS policy states:

Substitutions from the same agency or organization (one individual taking the place of another in a course) will be handled on a case-by-case basis and are at the sole discretion of SAFE KIDS.

The individual who is substituting for another candidate must register and pay for the course following the normal registration process. Upon registration, the substituting student must call Customer Service at 877-366-8154 to notify SAFE KIDS of the name of the person for whom he is substituting. The original registrant must submit a Fee Refund Application. The Fee Refund Application must include the names of both parties and the signature of either the Course Administrator or the Lead Instructor.

Upon approval of the submitted application, SAFE KIDS will provide a full refund, minus a $10.00 processing fee, to the original candidate.

SAFE KIDS understands that the current policy has presented many "real world" issues. Evaluating and improving this policy is one of our top priorities.  We will update you on any policy changes.

What are my payment options if I don’t have a credit card?

All payment options are available for each type of registration (e.g., new certification, re-certification, instructor candidacy).  Online, faxed and phone-in registration fees must be paid by credit/debit/check card. Mailed registrations can be paid by credit/debit/check card, check or purchase order.  Payment MUST accompany the registration and cannot be sent separately.

Purchase orders must identify the specific individual(s) registering.  Payments for purchase orders are required within 30 days of course completion. Individuals will not be certified until payment is received. To download the SAFE KIDS W-9 form (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification), click here.
