UP AND RUNNING

May 1 marked 60 days of operation for the online certification system. This innovation is the result of SAFE KIDS’s new role as certifying body for the National Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training Program, effective January 1, 2004.

SAFE KIDS leadership of the certification program recently transitioned to Field Director Steve Hartley and Chief Operating Officer Beverly Farinelli. You may reach them at shartley@safekids.org, bfarinelli@safekids.org or (202) 662-0600. Customer service questions should continue to be directed to 877-366-8154.

Steve and Beverly join the entire SAFE KIDS family in thanking Karen Farnsworth, who has left SAFE KIDS, for her extraordinary efforts in launching the new phase of NSCPSTP certification. We are sure many of you know Karen from her years of child passenger safety leadership and join us in wishing her well in all her future endeavors.

RE-CERTIFICATION AMNESTY EXTENDED TO AUGUST 1

The deadline for re-certification for those with an expiration date from June 1, 2003, to January 1, 2004, has been extended to August 1, 2004. You will not be eligible for re-certification after this date, and there will be no exceptions. There will be no other extensions to this deadline.

If you have already input your required seat check activity, be sure to check frequently to see if it has been verified. Instructors also need to fax their teaching logs to SAFE KIDS at (202) 393-2072, attention CPS Certification. Once these items have been verified, you need to submit your registration (either online, by phone or by mail). These steps must be completed by the end of the day August 1 to take advantage of the amnesty period.

Once payment has been received, you will receive an exam ID and password, along with a link to the exam, by e-mail. This may take up to five days. You may complete the exam within one sitting, or you may log on and off multiple times, but you must complete the exam within 10 days of the time you start. Your exam will be officially scored and the data transferred to your certification profile within 20 business days. You will also be mailed official notification of your status within 20 business days.
