When multiple magnets are swallowed by small children they become attracted to each other in the stomach and intestines, and cause major internal injuries. Safe Kids was alerted by its coalition in New Orleans connected with the New Orleans Children’s Hospital. Two-year-old Braylon Jordan swallowed eight magnets and, spending two months at New Orleans Children’s Hospital’s ICU, much of his small intestines had to be removed. Prompted by the New Orleans case, earlier this year the CPSC and Safe Kids issued a joint statement warning parents about the mega magnets. |
