swallowing magnets can be fatalSafe Kids Worldwide applauds the Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) for taking decisive action to help save kids’ lives by working to remove Buckyballs and Buckycubes from the marketplace, both in stores and on-line. The agency sued the manufacturer of the magnet stress toys to stop it from selling them and also reached an agreement with amazon.com, Brookstone and Urban Outfitters to stop sales of the product as soon as possible.

When multiple magnets are swallowed by small children they become attracted to each other in the stomach and intestines, and cause major internal injuries. Safe Kids was alerted by its coalition in New Orleans connected with the New Orleans Children’s Hospital. Two-year-old Braylon Jordan swallowed eight magnets and, spending two months at New Orleans Children’s Hospital’s ICU, much of his small intestines had to be removed.  Prompted by the New Orleans case, earlier this year the CPSC and Safe Kids issued a joint statement warning parents about the mega magnets.

It's the parents responsibility to not let small children have these magnets. It does have an age limit on them. My daughter of 15 has some but my 10 yr old doesn't and she knows better because I taught her better then that. I think the parents should be more careful and read the do's and don't's of the toys these days. Everyone is once again getting what I call punished for the carelessness of some parents. I think they should just pay better attention.
