THE ISSUE
In April, the Arizona legislature passed a bill to require that children ages 5-7 who are shorter than 4 feet 10 inches be in a child restraint system. Along with Arizona, only Florida and South Dakota do not have a booster seat law in effect.
WHERE WE ARE
The bill is now on the desk of Governor Jan Brewer for her veto or signature. We urge Arizonans—and all concerned about child safety—to send an email to Governor Brewer and encourage her to make Arizona the 48th state to adopt a life-saving child seat law. Right after the law passed, Safe Kids Worldwide President and CEO Kate Carr wrote to the Governor encouraging her to sign the bill.
Key fact: According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, seven of the nine children ages 5-8 who died in a vehicle crash in 2009 were not properly restrained in a booster seat.
TAKE ACTION
Please send an email to Governor Brewer encouraging her to make HB 2154 law.
