Chris Johnson, Moira Donahue (Safe Kids USA), Phil Simms FedEx will donate $25,000 to each of the two local Safe Kids coalitions in the winners' cities, New Orleans and Nashville, for projects to make these communities safer for pedestrians. The donations will be used by Safe Kids coalitions for pedestrian safety improvements or education in their communities. In 2008, these improvements included the installation of crosswalk clock timers at a Denver, Colorado elementary school and the gift of safety reflectors to students at a Jacksonville, Florida elementary school to make them more visible to drivers as they walked or biked to school. In 1999, Safe Kids Worldwide and program sponsor FedEx created the Safe Kids Walk This Way Program in the United States to teach safe behaviors to motorists and child pedestrians and create safer, more walkable communities. Over the past 10 years, the program has expanded to include Brazil, Canada, China, India, South Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines, enabling Safe Kids coalitions and FedEx volunteers to reach families in thousands of communities throughout the U.S. and around the world.
