Other Program HighlightsOutreach Partners Partnerships with groups like the NAACP, the National Council of La Raza, the Urban League and other community organizations help Safe Kids Buckle Up reach underserved families. Safe Kids Buckle Up also worked with the Boy Scouts of America to design the Automotive Safety Patch program for Cub Scouts. Now kids 7 to 10 years old (an underserved age group) have vehicle safety activities tailored to their needs. Research Research conducted by Safe Kids Worldwide shows what parents learn at Safe Kids Buckle Up events keeps their children safer in vehicles. Safe Kids studied data from car seat checkup events conducted in 29 states in 2005. At child safety seat checkups six weeks after receiving hands-on instruction, parents installed 45 percent more seats correctly. No children arrived at the second event unrestrained. Legislation All 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have laws governing child passenger safety. But Safe Kids Worldwide, GM, and Safe Kids coalitions continue working together to improve or enforce laws. Most critical is booster seat legislation to protect children who don’t yet fit in adult seat belts. |
