CPS Certification
The National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program certifies people in the United States as child passenger safety technicians and instructors. Tens of thousands have completed training and been certified as Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technicians since the program began in 1997. CurriculumThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) developed the original National Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training Curriculum in the mid-1990s and continues to update it with the latest technical information. NHTSA is also a founding member of the National Child Passenger Safety Board. Expert GuidanceThe National Child Passenger Safety Board strives to improve the quality and integrity of child passenger safety information and materials. It provides recommendations and guidance to NHTSA and Safe Kids regarding curriculum and test development and serves as a panel of experts and advocates for the program as a whole. FundingSince 2005, State Farm has been the sole corporate sponsor. Their support helps make possible the online certification and course management systems, and provides online program enhancements for CPS Technicians and Instructors. Program AdministrationSafe Kids is the current certifying body for the National Child Passenger Safety Training Program. It administers all aspects of CPS certification and maintains a directory of nationally certified CPS Technicians and Instructors. Safe Kids provides course materials and registration for and customer service to CPS Technicians and Instructors. |
