PRODUCT AND SAFETY NEWS

A new report shows teen driver deaths on the rise:
After years of steady declines in teen driver deaths, the fatality numbers have spiked up, according to a new nation-wide report from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). The study, which counted up teen driver deaths in every state plus D.C. in the first six months of 2012, found that teen driver deaths increased by 19 percent from last year.

Consumer Reports advises pregnant women not to rush things:
Advice to expectant mothers from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Family Practitioners tells pregnant women not to rush things. When asked to identify five tests or procedures that were overdone, both organizations agreed on the same top two: a planned early delivery and inducing labor without a strong medical reason.

CPSC issues new standards for play yards:
Beginning February 28, 2013, manufacturers and importers of infant and toddler play yards are required to test their play yards to ensure that they meet new federal safety standards. The new play yard standard is one of many safety standards that CPSC has passed as part of the Danny Keysar Child Product Safety Notification Act, or what we call “Danny’s Law.”
