Here are few tips to help keep your little kids safe on the way:Bike and Wheels Safety for Little Kids On The WayLittle kids look forward to being big kids, but they need to follow guidelines suitable for their age before they ride “big kid” bikes and play other wheeled sports. Because they are not ready to ride a bicycle, children under the age of five usually ride tricycles. Car Seat and Booster Seat Safety for Little Kids On The WayLittle kids are safest when they ride rear-facing in a back seat. Recent American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations (March 2011) urge parents to keep children in a harnessed car seat for as long as possible. Depending on your car seat and child's weight or height, you may be able to keep your child rear-facing longer before adjusting the car seat to face forward. Use the full harness for as long as the seat allows. Frontover and Backover Prevention for Little Kids On The WayCars are not playgrounds but they are often near areas where children play. Children can be injured or killed in "backover" or "frontover" incidents. Heatstroke Prevention for Little Kids On The WayLittle kids should never be left alone in a vehicle - even for a minute. Heat is much more dangerous to them than to adults. When left in a hot vehicle, a young child’s body temperature may increase three to five times faster than an adult's, which can cause permanent injury or even death. Pedestrian Safety for Little Kids On The WayChildren ages 4 and under are at greatest risk of traffic-related pedestrian injuries. Teach children safe pedestrian behavior by modeling safety: cross streets at corners, use traffic signals and crosswalks whenever possible, and make eye contact with drivers prior to crossing in front of them.
