Jennifer’s Story: One Mom’s Mission to Speak Out Against Preventable Injuries

For my family, Safe Kids Day is a day to celebrate my daughter’s life.

When my daughter, Reagan, was two years old, she nearly drowned in a family member’s swimming pool. It was the most terrifying moment of my life.

We were at a birthday party for my cousin and I asked a relative to watch Reagan while I took my five year-old son, Josh, to the bathroom. I’ll never forget walking back out a few minutes later and seeing Reagan lying next to the pool.

It was a mother’s worst nightmare. Reagan was rushed to the hospital, put on life support and ultimately survived.

Every day I think about how I would have felt if I had lost my little girl – how my life would have been changed forever. It’s a reality too many parents have to endure. Each year, 9,000 families in the U.S. lose a child to an injury that could have been prevented.

These are lives we can save. But we need your help.

This April, please join me in supporting Safe Kids Day, an awareness and fundraising campaign to celebrate kids, prevent injuries, and save lives.

Here’s how YOU can get involved:

  • Tell your loved ones about Safe Kids Day and spread the word (use the social media icons at the top of this page to share).
  • Make a donation to support the Safe Kids Day campaign.
  • Become a fundraiser to encourage your friends and family to help protect children.

Proceeds from Safe Kids Day support Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing childhood injuries.

Please join me on Safe Kids Day to learn the little things we can all do to make every kid a safe kid — I can't think of a better way to spend a day.

Thank you,
