Angela Mickalide
Director of Research and Programs
Angela Mickalide, Ph.D., MCHES is the Director of Research and Programs for Safe Kids Worldwide. She oversees home safety programming, Safe Kids Worldwide coalition and chapter efforts, and global research in all unintentional childhood injury risk areas. For the past six years at the Home Safety Council, Dr. Mickalide was responsible for leading the development and execution of all injury prevention outreach initiatives, educational campaigns and community volunteer programs.
An active member of the public health and injury prevention community, Dr. Mickalide has published 80 articles, book chapters and research reports, as well as delivered numerous keynote presentations and print and broadcast media interviews. She also serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion Practice. Dr. Mickalide graduated as a Scholar in the Public Health Education Leadership Institute (PHELI).
Throughout her career, Dr. Mickalide has received numerous honors including the Early Career Award from the American Public Health Association's Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section, a Health Service Commendation for exemplary performance as Staff Coordinator of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, and a Champion of SAFE KIDS Award. She also received the Sarah Mazelis Award for outstanding public health education practice from the American Public Health Association's Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section. Dr. Mickalide was awarded the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) Trophy for her contributions as the Trustee for Publications and Communications by the organization's president.
Dr. Mickalide graduated summa cum laude from Colby College in Waterville, Maine in 1979. She earned her PhD degree in 1985 at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, specializing in public health, psychology, and health education. Dr. Mickalide is also a master certified health education specialist (MCHES).
