Candice Ahwah-Gonzalez
Program Associate, Fire and Water Safety
Candice Ahwah-Gonzalez is the Program Associate for the Fire and Water safety programs at Safe Kids Worldwide. She has professional experience in conducting public health research including planning, implementing, and evaluating public health programs on a community and national level.
Candice has previously worked for several academic institutions, the State of Florida, and the National Institutes of Health. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from the University of Maryland and a Master of Public Health degree in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University.

Last month, in Boston, a 14-year-old boy suffered fatal carbon monoxide poisoning. The boy, who had been helping his father shovel snow to free their car, climbed into the running vehicle to warm up.

 Our hearts go out to the millions of families who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. We are so grateful to emergency personnel who are working around the clock to make things better. If there is one thing this “storm of the century” has taught us, it’s the importance of planning ahead and being safe.

As a parent, I always considered myself to be very cautious when it came to preventing burns, especially when my daughter was younger. I made sure I always tested her food and drink temperatures before I gave them to her, and carefully tested her bath water to make sure it was not too hot.
