The School
School Name: St. Martha’s Elementary School
City:
Fort McMurray, Alberta
Number of Students:
761

The Issue
The last few years have seen a rapid growth of local industry in the neighborhood surrounding St. Martha’s Elementary School. As a result, children are exposed to increased hazards on their way to school. The high rate of jaywalking, speeding vehicles and traffic congestion also increase risks that students face while walking around the school.

The project
Working with members in law enforcement, Alberta Health Services, Municipal staff and parental council, Safe Kids Canada and Safe Community Wood Buffalo plan to install traffic calming measures including “school zone” signs and radar speed feedback sign.
