Latest NewsSafe Kids Germany: Child Safety Day 2012June 10, 2012 On June 10, Safe Kids Germany hosted national Child Safety Day to increase awareness of child accidents, principally among ethnic minorities and immigrant families. Child Safety Day was focused on prevention of accidents due to poisoning, with the motto, “Beware: Poisonous!” Events and activities included an all-day press seminar for journalists, particularly those working in multilingual media; a joint press release with the Ministry for the Environment; television appearances by staff and partners; games and activities for children; and distribution of materials to community members, including a picture book and multi-lingual poster. In Germany, approximately 19,000 children under the age of 16 require medical treatment due to poisonings each year. Children under the age of 5 years are particularly at risk as they encounter medicines, cleaning materials, tobacco and lamp oil at home. The poison campaign and Child Safety Day are supported by the Federal Ministry for the Environment.
