December 15, 2011

On November 21, the Safe Kids Jordan/ Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS), in cooperation with the University of Philadelphia, conducted an interactive training session for 150 sixth and seventh grade students in a public school located in Amman.

The session was implemented by 14 university students from nursing school who have been trained on how to deliver Think First material to children. The session focused on the First Aid component of the Think First program.

Through innovative methods, the university volunteers demonstrated to children how to react to emergency situations such as choking, burns and cuts. This awareness session is one of several sessions RHAS is planning on implementing throughout the year using this approach to raise awareness using Think First material.

 About Think First

“Think First” is an injury prevention project which aims to integrate injury prevention measures in the daily lives of young people in Jordan through the development of a local injury prevention curriculum reflecting the needs of the Jordanian society.

The goal of the project is to help students understand why their first choice must be to “Think First” and to minimize their risks of suffering a brain or spinal cord injury over their lifetime. “Think First” is currently implemented in 68 schools, reaching more than 45,000 students, 500 teachers and 23 educational supervisors.
