Highlights

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Campaign

This summer, people all over Brazil contributed to Criança Segura/Safe Kids Brazil’s Johnson & Johnson’s campaign, "Cuidar em Dobro" (Take Care In Double). This campaign, which promoted the prevention of children deaths and hospitalizations related to accidents, was a great success and reached the proposed goal. The campaign generated funds for Safe Kids Brazil’s child unintentional injury prevention programs by generating funds for every Johnson & Johnson’s product registered on the website; Safe Kids Brazil received $0.06 USD for each registration.

The website showed a measurement of how many families were registering their products at any given time during the campaign. The goal to accrue $187,000 USD was achieved by July 15. As part of the partnership and campaign, Safe Kids Brazil is training 3,000 people to sensitize 120,000 families on injury prevention for their children.

Using the Web to Expand Reach

For more than a year, Criança Segura/Safe Kids Brazil began offering online e-learning courses to expand the reach of their programs. The e-learning courses aim to sensitize road safety stakeholders to child injury issues and train them to develop an action plan which will promote child injury prevention in their community. Each course has reached at least 200 participants and is held several times a year. Participants join from all walks of life and range from parents and teachers to professionals in education, health, traffic and other sectors.

Each virtual child safety course is eight-classes and includes scientific articles, videos, data and other important information. At the end of the course, participants create an “Action Plan” of activities that they implement in their communities. Upon completing their community action plan, some classes have been able to reach thousands of children and adults through their proposed activities.

The e-learning courses have continued to grow in enrollment. In the most recent registration period for the courses, 1,200 people have subscribed to participate.
