You know what they say about playing with fire? Burns caused by direct contact with fire are more common among kids this age, so talk to your kids about how to stay safe from burns by taking a few simple precautions.
Top Safety Tips
- Don't allow children to use a microwave by themselves until they are both tall enough to reach it safely and able to understand that steam can cause burns.
- Actively supervise bigger kids in the kitchen and around electrical appliances and outlets and teach them how to act responsibly.
- Make a habit of placing matches, gasoline and lighters in a safe place, out of children's reach. Avoid novelty lighters or lighters that look like toys.
