On Saturday, April 5 more than 450 families and kids of all ages swept through the Lot in West Hollywood for the first ever Safe Kids Day in Los Angeles to help celebrate kids, prevent injuries and save lives.
The fun-filled event featured tons of celebrity guests, including Drew Barrymore and Ciara, who delighted kids by reading a few children’s books as part of story time; Vanna White, who invited kids to spin the wheel at a bike safety carnival booth; and Tina Charles and Matthew Hatchette, who played basketball with kids and offered tips at the sports safety center.

There is nothing that I can remember loving more as a kid than riding my bike with all of my friends. Every ride was an adventure and we would stay out as long as we could.
Now as an adult, I still hop on a bike every opportunity I get – and it’s especially fun to ride with my nephews, Jake, 4, and Nathan, 7, who are actually starting to keep up with me, which is saying something.
Who doesn’t love a good vacation? I know I do. One of my favorite things to look forward to is my family’s summer vacation. We almost never go to the same place twice (there were those three consecutive visits to a water park lodge, but that doesn’t count because who gets tired of water slides?)
This year, we are marking 10 years of progress in reducing drowning deaths among our kids through passage of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act (VGB). There’s been a 25 percent reduction in U.S. pool deaths among children in the past ten years. On May 24, 2017, members of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies heard testimony about the law.
