Coalitions do many things:

  • Carry out Safe Kids events and activities
  • Teach parents and caregivers about preventing child injury
  • Distribute safety devices in the community
  • Advocate for better laws to protect kids

All Safe Kids coalition members are people interested in preventing child injury. But many kinds of people are coalition members:

  • Law enforcement officers
  • Firefighters
  • Paramedics
  • Medical and health professionals, like doctors and nurses
  • Employees of local and state government agencies like the health department, the department of motor vehicles or social services
  • Educators
  • Parents and grandparents
  • Business people
  • Public policy makers
  • Kids

An organization with a strong interest in protecting children must commit resources and staff to leading the Safe Kids coalition and recruiting members. Safe Kids coalitions pay no dues to Safe Kids. Safe Kids provides them with free and low-cost resources, technical assistance and grant opportunities.

Many Safe Kids coalitions have local chapters. There are more 250 chapters nationwide.
