PHOTOVOICEIn 2008, Safe Kids Worldwide launched PHOTOVOICE: Children’s Perspectives on Road Traffic Safety as a creative way to educate children on how to be safe pedestrians. Forty-nine Safe Kids USA coalitions joined with seven Safe Kids Worldwide member countries to participate in the project. As a part of PHOTOVOICE, children are given cameras to capture images of their walking environments and document pedestrian and driver behaviors as well as the potential hazards they face while walking to school. The photographs are displayed in prominent areas of their communities. Selected coalitions receive grants provided by FedEx to address the pedestrian dangers documented in the children’s photographs as a part of the PHOTOVOICE project. |
