Suspect a Concussion?

Download the Concussion AppLet the Concussion Recognition and Response™ (CRR) App Help You Decide How to Proceed.

  • The smartphone app is a new tool that helps coaches and parents recognize whether an individual is exhibiting/reporting the signs and symptoms of a suspected concussion.
  • The app allows a coach or parent to respond quickly and appropriately to this potentially serious medical situation. In less than 5 minutes, the user can complete a checklist of possible signs and/or symptoms to determine whether to remove the child from play and the need for further medical examination.
  • The app allows users to record pertinent information regarding a child with a suspected concussion and share that information via e-mail with health care professionals; it also provides a system for post-injury follow-up.
  • With answers to Frequently Asked Questions for parents and coaches, this tool is an invaluable guide for learning about and recognizing concussions.

The Story Behind the CRR App

Developed by concussion experts Gerard A. Gioia, Ph.D, and Jason Mihalik, Ph.D, the app is based on information from the CDC's "Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports" program. Guiding the user through a list of possible symtoms, the app helps coaches and parents make informed decisions about next steps following a suspected concussion.

Disclaimer: Please note that this is just one method that you can use, and share with others, to learn more on how to recognize a suspected concussion. Safe Kids does not advocate for one specific method, but encourages education on the best methods to prevent subsequent concussions in youth sports and recreational play.
