Children's National Medical Center
At Children’s National Medical Center in 1986, a pediatric surgeon and a public relations consultant came up with an idea for the movement to prevent childhood injuries that became Safe Kids Worldwide. CNMC remains the parent organization for Safe Kids to this day, providing leadership, financial services and human resource support. CNMC is consistently rated one of America’s best pediatric institutions by U.S. News & World Report. It was also one of only eight children's hospitals among the Leapfrog Group’s 2007 Top Hospitals in the United States. CNMC started as a small hospital in the U.S. capital more than 135 years ago, and has grown into a destination for children throughout the world. CNMC provides more than $50 million in uncompensated care each year for kids whose families cannot afford to pay. Safe Kids Worldwide is CNMC’s primary injury prevention effort. |
