E-camp Launched

As part of the Safe Kids Month campaign and with the support of Shanghai Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (SJJP), an E-camp on summer safety was launched on June 29, just before the summer holiday. During the launch event, Mike Hsu, General Manager of SJJP and 50 kindergarten children presented a performance about the prevention of poisoning, and together unveiled the E-summer safety camp.

The event generated 167 articles with ad value up to over RMB 3 million. The campaign led to a four-fold increase in the number of Sina Weibo (similar to Twitter) fans to 3,500 and reached 2,237,967 online users.

With the increase of internet users, especially among those who live in rural areas, the E-camp aims to expand Safe Kids China’s outreach activities to more people throughout China. The E-camp is a website-based program on summer safety, promoted through Weibo. The topics covered in the program include the prevention of drowning, falls and poisonings, which are common child injuries in China, especially during the summer.

As part of the program, three short educational videos were developed, each with behavior-oriented lessons to guide parents on how to educate children. In addition to the videos, there are live broadcasts of events and games on safety for children. Visit the program website, here.

Safe Kids Month

The theme of this year’s Safe Kids Month was “Safe Summer Happy Kids” with a focus on falls, drowning and poisoning prevention. Safe Kids China held training sessions for volunteers and prepared materials and activities for all the events.  During the month of July, a total of 674 Johnson and Johnson volunteers reached out to over 50,000 parents and children.

At migrant schools, homes, community hospitals and kindergartens, Safe Kids China along with Johnson and Johnson volunteers showed their support and care for children and migrant families. A total of 78 activities took place in 29 cities during the month.  Among these activities was a collaborative event between Safe Kids China and the Shanghai Junior Journalist group.  Together, 115 Johnson and Johnson volunteers accompanied 237 junior journalists to shopping centers where they educated the public on summer safety for children.
