Anthony Green, Director, Public Policy

Anthony Green is the Director of Public Policy for Safe Kids Worldwide. In that role he works with the Safe Kids team to press for policies—legislation, regulatory measures, educational programs and other tools—to promote kids safety. He works on the city and state level, as well as on federal issues. He has provided technical assistance to state coalitions involving child passenger safety, carbon monoxide detectors in schools, bike helmet laws and more.

Tony has worked for more than 12 years at the top levels of U.S. congressional offices and served in the State Department during the Clinton administration. As a “founding father” of the National Constitution Center, he was engaged in the institution’s unique education program. Tony ran the center’s public engagement program, which included events with former Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, Professor Cornel West, Joe Scarborough, Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer and Antonin Scalia, Sen. John McCain, columnist Maureen Dowd and author Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Tony began his career in public service as a reporter for Philadelphia magazine covering politics, lifestyle and profiles. He won national journalism awards for his work on flaws in the federal witness protection program and criminal defense practices.

In 1987, he became chief of staff to Rep. Thomas M. Foglietta. The congressman served on the Appropriations Committee, with a special focus on transportation policy, and formed the bipartisan Congressional Urban Caucus. When Mr. Foglietta was named ambassador to Italy, Tony accompanied him to the Embassy as senior counselor. At the Embassy, he worked on military and commercial issues, and was instrumental in passing a law through the Italian parliament relating to intellectual property.

Tony attended the Villanova University School of Law and clerked for a Pennsylvania State Supreme Court justice. He grew up in Wynnewood, Pa., and presently lives in Washington, D.C.
