While it is important to keep aware of all recalls, Safe Kids urges you to pay particular attention to ones in red, as they are associated with one or more deaths. (There are two dresser recalls associated with three deaths due to furniture tip-over hazards) We also include important news about products and consumer concerns.

Consumer Reports says high-back boosters are safest:
Consumer Reports says that high-back booster seats are the safest type of booster because of the head support and good fit they provide. However, they also note that while high-backs are the safest choice, backless boosters are still much safer than no booster at all. Whalen Furniture has agreed to pay $725,000 for failing to report on defective children’s beds:
The CPSC reports in states that Whalen Furniture Manufacturing Inc. has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $725,000. The lid supports on the toy chests fail to prevent the lid from closing, posing an entrapment and strangulation hazard to young children. The settlement agreement resolves CPSC staff allegations that the firm knowingly failed to report the defect to CPSC immediately, as required by federal law.
