Good Neighbor Car Seat Safety Program Boosts Road Safety for Kids
Safe Kids Worldwide® and State Farm® have announced plans for continuation of the Good Neighbor Car Seat Safety Program, introducing new events for 2025 to enhance road safety for children. This initiative strengthens their partnership, focusing on improving access to education and resources, encouraging behavioral changes, and fostering a safety-conscious culture in families and communities.
Since its inception in September 2023, the Good Neighbor Car Seat Safety program has reached almost 26,000 families through signature events, inspecting more than 5,200 car seats and distributing close to 3,000 new car seats to those in need. This year, the national program is expanding its efforts to further support the child passenger safety needs of expectant families, new parents, caregivers, and grandparents.
Motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death for children aged 1-12 in the United States. A properly-used and installed child safety seat can reduce injury risk by up to 71%. Yet, in 2022, one in four children under 13 who died in crashes were unrestrained. Studies reveal that over half of car seats are not used or installed correctly. Additionally, research from Safe Kids shows that four out of five parents transition their child out of a booster seat too soon, and three in four are unaware that children should remain in booster seats until they reach at least 4 feet 9 inches tall.
“Thanks to the support of State Farm, we are already seeing the impact of our work, and more parents understand the importance of buckling up every ride, every time,” said Torine Creppy, president of Safe Kids Worldwide. “While we’re encouraged by the progress, the data shows that we can prevent even more tragedies with the right education, outreach, and awareness efforts, particularly regarding booster seats.”
“State Farm understands the critical importance of ensuring safety for everyone From Car Seat to Driver's Seat™,” says Sonya Robinson, Vice President, State Farm Corporate Responsibility. “We are thankful for our partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide, which allows us to provide more educational opportunities and resources to families on child passenger safety through the Good Neighbor Car Seat Safety Program.”
