January 2014 Product Safety Recalls

Safe Kids is committed to keeping you informed about recalls of kids’ oriented products. While it is important to keep aware of all recalls, Safe Kids urges you to pay particular attention to ones in red, as they are associated with one or more deaths. Please note: Safe Kids is now emphasizing especially important recalls at the beginning of the listings (in italics). 

1/29/2014 CPSC: IKEA is voluntarily expanding the recall of junior beds because the metal rod connecting the guard rail to the bed frame can break in use, posing a laceration hazard. Units: about 3,500 (22,000 units were previously recalled for repair in August 2013)

1/24/2014 CPSC: Ergotron is voluntarily recalling television wall mounts because the mounting place and mounting ring can fail, posing a risk of injury to bystanders. Units: about 195,000 

1/22/2014 CPSC: Playtex is voluntarily recalling pacifier holding clips because the clip can crack and a small part can break off, posing a choking hazard to small children. Units: about 1.25 million

1/30/2014 CPSC: Fred and Friends is voluntarily recalling pacifiers because the beard and the knob on the pacifiers can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Units: About 183,000

1/30/2014 CPSC: West Marine is voluntarily recalling folding bicycles because bicycle’s frame can break during use, posing a fall hazard to the rider. Units: 4,600

1/30/2014 CPSC: Britax is voluntarily recalling strollers because the hinge on the stroller’s folding mechanism can cause injury when they press the release button while pulling on the release strap. Units: 216,000

1/28/2014 CPSC: System Sensors is voluntarily recalling reflected beam smoke detectors due to failure to alert consumers in a fire. Units: about 610

1/28/2014 CPSC: Horizon Hobby is voluntarily recalling remote controlled model helicopters because tail rotor blade can detach, posing a risk of crash or injury. Units: about 1,980

1/27/2014 FDA: Pringles is voluntarily recalling cans of Original crisps because they may have been inadvertently exposed to seasoning containing milk, which is not listed as an ingredient on the label.

1/23/2014 CPSC: Pottery Barn is voluntarily recalling Moravian Star Pendant Chandeliers because the joints can fail to support the weight of the pendant causing it to fall, posing the risk of injury. Units: about 1,100

1/23/2014 FDA: Kinnikinnick Foods is voluntarily expanding a previous recall on breakfast foods because of the products contain milk allergens that were not listed by the manufacturer.

1/23/2014 FDA: Araya is voluntarily recalling various types of products including Marshmallows, Chocolate gourmet bars, Dry Fruits covered in chocolate and assorted chocolate gift boxes because they may contain traces of allergens not declared on the label.

1/22/2014 CPSC: Nationwide Industries is voluntarily recalling Trident pool gate latches because the magnet portion of the latch can come loose and prevent the latch from securing a gate. Units: about 2,500

1/22/2014 CPSC: Midwest CBK is voluntarily recalling baby rattles because the head on the rattle can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Units: about 1,900

1/20/2014 FDA: Winn-Dixie is voluntarily recalling Winn-Dixie Instant Chocolate Drink Mix because the product may contain an undeclared milk allergen.

1/17/2014 FDA: Rise’n Roll Bakery is voluntarily recalling all its donut varieties and cinnamon caramel donut holes because they may contain undeclared egg.

1/17/2014 FDA: Merrell Food Group is voluntarily recalling Crunch’N Nutter Mixed Nut candy because it contains undeclared peanuts.

1/16/2014 CPSC: Bosch security systems is voluntarily recalling fire control panels because the notification appliance circuit module can cause the panels to fail to activate an audible or visual alarm in the event of a fire. Units: about 2,000

1/15/2014 CPSC: SRAM is voluntarily recalling hydraulic bicycle breaks because the brake systems can fail, posing a crash and injury hazard. Units: About 25,350

1/9/2014 CPSC: US Boiler is voluntarily recalling home heating boilers because the boiler can emit excessive amounts of carbon monoxide and pose a CO poisoning hazard. Units: About 26,000 in the United States

1/15/2014 CPSC: Under Armour is voluntarily recalling infant sports jersey kits because the shoulder snaps on the jersey can detach, posing laceration and choking hazards. Units: 62 

1/15/2014 CPSC: Sears and Kmart are voluntarily recalling Kenmore oscillating fan heaters because broken motor mounts can cause the units to overheat, catch fire and ignite nearby items, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers. 

1/14/2014 FDA: Paskesz Candy Company, is voluntarily recalling its Premium Belgian Chocolate Coins Hologram .5 oz bags because they may contain traces of undeclared milk.

1/9/2014 CPSC: New Yorker Boiler is voluntarily recalling home heating boilers because the boiler can emit excessive amounts of carbon monoxide and pose a CO poisoning hazard. Units:  191 

1/8/2014 FDA: Kinnikinnick Foods is voluntarily recalling five breakfast food packages because they may contain traces of undeclared milk.

1/7/2014 FDA: L.M. Noodle Company is voluntarily recalling its Marlyce's Butterballs because they contain undeclared wheat flour, soy flour, whey and milk.
