Passenger Safety for Pre-Teens
This is the time to stay strong when it comes to safety in cars. Here are some tips to stress so you can keep your preteen safe in the car.
Top Safety Tips
- Kids are VIPs – just ask them. We know VIPs ride in the back seat, so keep all kids in the back seat until they are 13.
- We know that when adults wear seat belts, kids wear seat belts. So be a good example and buckle up for every ride. Be sure everyone in the vehicle buckles up, too.
- Teach your kids to ride with experienced drivers and never get in the car with someone who has been drinking or doing drugs. Parents must decide what “experienced” means.
- Know your state's Graduated Drivers License (GDL) law and start talking to your teen about your expectations and the law well before they start to drive.
