Child Passenger Safety Laws

When is a child restraint required?

  • Younger than 2 years, or until meeting manufacturer's height/weight recommendations in a rear-facing child safety seat
  • 2 years and older and less than 55 pounds in a child restraint system with an internal harness in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions
  • Under 8 years and shorter than 57 inches or less than 80 pounds in a booster seat
