When is a child restraint required?
- IIHS: Under 2 years and until reaching the manufacturer's weight or height limits must be in a rear-facing child restraint
- 2 - 3 years and until reaching the manufacturer's weight or height limits in a forward-facing child restraint
- 4 - 8 years or until reaching the manufacturer's weight or height limits in a booster seat
When is a child restraint required?
- Under 1 year or under 20 pounds in infant only seats and convertible seats used in the rear facing position
- 1-4 years or 20-40 pounds in a convertible seats in the forward position or forward facing seats
- At least 5 years or 40 pounds to use a booster seat.
When is a child restraint required?
- Under 1 year in rear-facing infant seat in rear seat
- 1-4 years or under 40 pounds in child safety seat
- 5-6 years or under 60 pounds in booster seat

- Under 4 years or under 40 pounds in child safety seat
- 4-7 years and 40-80 pounds and 57 inches or shorter in child safety seat or booster seat
- 4 years or over and 80 pounds or over or taller than 57 inches in booster seat or safety belt
