Description

The Executive Office at Safe Kids Worldwide oversees the organization and its impactful child injury prevention research, programs, awareness, and advocacy programs implemented across a network of 400+ coalitions in the United States and with partners in more than 30 countries.

Safe Kids is currently accepting applications for an intern in the Executive Office from current or recent undergraduate or graduate students who are interested in supporting nonprofit business operations, including marketing and communications. The ideal candidate has a background in fundraising or business. Our office is fast-paced and a can-do attitude is essential. The internship is a great opportunity to gain real-world professional experience with a known and respected nonprofit.

The Executive internship is a hands-on experience with the opportunity to work alongside a passionate team in a fast-paced, nonprofit setting. The intern will work closely alongside the Executive Team supporting projects including fundraising, strategic planning, conference planning, social media, creative content development and other initiatives that support the mission of Safe Kids.

This is an unpaid internship; however, a transportation stipend will be provided to those working on-site and academic credit can be earned as determined by the regulations of your school's academic office.

Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit organization working to prevent childhood injury, the number one killer of children in the United States. Throughout the world, almost one million children die of an unintentional injury each year, and almost every one of these tragedies is preventable. Safe Kids works with an extensive network of members of more than 400 coalitions in the United States and partners in more than 30 countries to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, falls, burns poisonings and more.

Location and Time Commitment

This will be a hybrid internship. The selected candidate will be in the Safe Kids Worldwide office in Silver Spring, MD on Wednesday each week and will report remotely otherwise.

Internships require a minimum 3-month commitment. Preference will be given to candidates who are available for a part-time (20 hours/week) or full-time (40 hours/week) internship.

Applications are typically reviewed on a rolling basis for the following semesters:

  • Spring Term (Feb-May)
    • Tentative start date: 1st week of February
  • Summer Term (Jun-Aug)
    • Tentative start date: 1st week of June
  • Fall Term (Sep-Dec)
    • Tentative start date: 1st week of September

Opportunities

While specific internship projects may vary, interns will generally have the opportunity to:

  • Understand the role of an Executive Office within a nonprofit organization
  • Be innovative and share new and creative ideas while working alongside the organization’s President and other Executive team members
  • Contribute to critical projects and initiatives, both independent and cross functionally
  • Strengthen core business skills including attention to detail, multi-tasking, time and project management and communication
  • Partner with Marketing and Communications to further Safe Kids mission and broaden the reach of the network

Qualifications

  • Current or recent undergraduate or graduate students with a background in fundraising or business.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as a high aptitude for developing content for social media platforms
  • Self-driven and innovative
  • Mission-driven and action-oriented, have a strong service ethic and respect differences in culture and perspective
  • Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality given the sensitive nature of working with members of the Executive Team and interacting with the organization’s partners and families
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to participate in scheduled team check-ins and meetings virtually (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaborate with a team
