I’m a weather nerd. I’ve lived through hurricanes, blizzards, tornados, floods and other severe storms. I’ve only had to deal with minor earthquakes, which makes me happy. I am a trained weather-spotter and am hoping to go tornado-chasing next year. I am also a FEMA-certified livestock disaster manager. I have weather apps on the phone that drive my cube mates crazy. I’d like to think I’m prepared for any event Mother Nature can hand me.
“Why don’t cows live in houses?” “Why do cows have spots?” “Do cows eat grilled cheese for lunch, too?”
It doesn’t take long being around children to realize that their curiosity (and imagination) is unparalleled. I was asked all these questions while babysitting my 3-year-old neighbor, Jonathan — yes, even the one about grilled cheese. While their curiosity and innocence often enhances their cuteness, it also inevitably leads them into vulnerable and sometimes dangerous situations.

11.20.2014 CPSC:Graco is voluntarily recalling 11 models of strollers due to finger amputation hazard. There were reports of finger injuries, including the amputation of fingertips. The folding hinge on the sides of the stroller can pinch a child’s finger, posing a laceration or amputation hazard. Nearly 5 million strollers are affected in the U.S. and about 200,000 in Canada.
June 2013 Child Product Safety Recalls
Washington, D.C. – In an effort to ensure every child has the chance to grow up safely, Safe Kids Worldwide launched its new strategic plan focused on Equity in Child Safety today at the Safe Kids Childhood Injury Prevention Convention (PrevCon), where more than 500 safety professionals gathered to network, learn, and collaborate on efforts to enhance the safety of children on the road, at home, at school, and at play.
