Auto safety agency urges caregivers to think ‘Where’s baby? Look before you lock.’
LOUISVILLE, KY – With the Kentucky summer already heating up, David Strickland, Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), today joined SafeKids Worldwide, Kentucky Department of Transportation officials and health professionals to discuss ways to prevent child deaths and injuries in hot cars and urge parents and caregivers to think "Where's baby? Look before you lock."
Suspense may be important in a movie, but not when you are buying products for your young children. A high chair, crib or even a swing set for the back yard can be among the most important investments in your career as a parent. But there's a way to take the suspense out of shopping.
And that’s by paying special attention to product recalls. A small fraction of products sold are taken off the market,usually in cooperation between federal agencies and the companies that make them. Some of them are for kids.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today joined National Highway Traffic Safety Administrator David Strickland and Safe Kids President and CEO Kate Carr for the kick-off of Child Passenger Safety Week to remind parents and caregivers to make sure that they are properly using and installing their child safety seats. A new National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) survey shows that parents are making five significant mistakes when using car seats and booster seats.
Thursday was Safe Kids Day on Capitol Hill. We held a bipartisan event on September 20 to educate Senators, Members of Congress and their staff about the risks that kids face and the challenges parents have in preventing unintentional injury, the #1 killer of kids in America. The event was sponsored by Congressman Tom Petri (R-WI) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL).
