Children's Product Recalls - February 2018

Safe Kids is committed to keeping you informed about recalls of products that can put kids at risk. This recall report includes 78,000 Lenovo laptops with lithium-ion batteries which can catch fire, over 3,000 Tiffany mugs which can crack when filled with hot liquid and 5,500 Specialized bicycles with forks which can break and cause a rider to fall. The Safe Kids’ recall center is a unique place where parents and caregivers can go to stay up-to-date on recalls of all child-related products.

February 28, 2018 CPSC; PL Sleep recalls its 100 percent polyester gray and white snowflake print sleeves and faux sherpa fleece body children’s nightgowns because they fail to meet the federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children. Units: 1,100 (an additional 380 were sold in Canada).

February 26, 2018 CPSC; Allen Sports recalls its UltraX and Ultra1 Folding Bicycles because the bike’s frame can break during use causing the bicycle to collapse, posing a fall hazard to consumers. Units: 150.

February 22, 2018 CPSC; Monster Moto recalls its 255cc off-road mini bikes because the fuel tank venting system can leak, posing a fire hazard. Units: 1,800.

February 22, 2018 CPSC; Yamaha recalls its golf cars and personal transportation vehicles because the brake cables on the golf cars and PTVs can fail, posing a crash hazard. Units: 161,000.

February 21, 2018 CPSC; Home Depot recalls Hampton Bay and Cross Ridge Outdoor Gas Fire Pit Table Patio Heaters because the bowl base of the fire pits lacks a heat shield to protect consumers from burns while turning off the propane tank after use, posing a burn hazard. Units: 58,000.

February 21, 2018 CPSC; Cost Plus World Market recalls its bleeding drip taper candles because the candles’ high flame can ignite the surface of the wax, posing fire and burn hazards. Units: 8,400.

February 20, 2018 CPSC; Whirlpool recalls KitchenAid 1.7 Liter Electric Kettles because the handle can loosen and separate from the kettle, causing hot contents to spill, posing a burn hazard. Units: 40,200 (an additional 47,300 units were sold in Canada and 1,600 in Mexico).

February 20, 2018 CPSC; Nemo Equipment recalls Stargaze Recliner chairs because the straps on the chair seats can break, posing a fall hazard. Units: 15,500.

February 16, 2018 CPSC; CPSC files a lawsuit against Britax Child Safety based on defect involving B.O.B. jogging strollers because, the agency says, the wheel can detach, causing a fall hazard. The company has said the product is safe.

February 15, 2018 CPSC; Specialized Bicycle Components recalls 2018 Specialized Allez (Base), Allez Sport, and Allez Elite road racing bicycles because the fork on the bicycle can break and cause the rider to lose control, posing a crash hazard. Units: 5,500.

February 15, 2018 CPSC; Rural King recalls its electric heated blankets and throws because the electric cord can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. Units: 9,600.

February 14, 2018 CPSC; ISO Beauty recalls Ionic Pro hair dryers because the cord can become brittle near the base of the dryer, posing burn hazards. Units: 73,000.

February 13, 2018 CPSC; Tea Collection recalls Vermillion Painted Floral and Shocking Fuchsia Rose children’s rompers because the snaps near the collar can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Units: 3,800.

February 13, 2018 CPSC; West Elm recalls Jensen rectangular glass tables because the tempered glass top can shatter unexpectedly, posing laceration and injury hazards. Units: 5,400.

February 8, 2018 CPSC; Fujitsu recalls lithium-ion battery packs because they can overheat, posing burn and fire hazards to consumers. Units: 5,800.

February 6, 2018 CPSC; Kohler recalls gasoline engines that have a faulty fuel cap, which can allow over-pressurization in the fuel tank, posing a risk of a fuel leak and fire hazard. Units: 24,000.

February 6, 2018 CPSC; Lenovo recalls ThinkPad X1 Carbon Laptops (5th Generation) because an unfastened screw can damage the battery causing overheating, posing a fire hazard. Units: 78,000 (an additional 5,500 were sold in Canada).

February 6, 2018 CPSC; Tiffany & Co. recalls crystal mugs because the mugs can crack or break when used with or exposed to hot liquids, posing burn and laceration hazards. Units: 3,300.

February 5, 2018 CPSC; B&P Lamp Supply recalls Golo 3-way turn knob lamp sockets because the lamp socket screw does not fasten tightly which can result in arcing or overheating, posing a fire hazard. Units: 3,000.               

February 1, 2018 CPSC; Alstyle recalls infant bodysuits because the snaps at the crotch can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Units 194,500 (an additional 103,100 were sold in Canada).

February 1, 2018 CPSC; Sun Rise Trading recalls Kobalt cordless electric chainsaws because the chain brake guard can fail and allow the chainsaw to continue operating, posing an injury hazard to users. Units: 48,100 (an additional 2,100 were sold in Canada).

February 1, 2018 CPSC; Hunter Douglas recalls Luminette privacy sheer blinds because the cord restraints on the combination wand/cord of the sheer blinds can break, posing a strangulation hazard to children. Units: 550 (an additional 60 were sold in Canada).
