Safety Reminders as Kids Go “Back to School”
– However They Go Back
As many normal activities have continued to require careful consideration as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, parents are now challenged with “back to school” and what that means for their children and their families.
We know there is a lot to manage during this time, and it can feel like there is very little in your control. But whether your child will be attending school at home, in-person or a combination of the two, we want to help make sure they stay injury-free.
Record Numbers of Children Dying in Vehicles This Week
Over the river, through the woods, down the highway and off on a plane we go. Holiday travel season is here and it’s an extra special one for me because it’s my baby’s first Thanksgiving. Not only are we travelling to Grandma’s house, but we’re off to aunts’, uncles’ and cousins’ houses as well – at least I don’t have to do the cooking this year.
Even during these challenging times, to many of us, Memorial Day is the official start of summer.

Some say it is overly ambitious to think we can reach a goal of zero road fatalities involving people on foot and bikes. When it comes to keeping kids safe, there should be no other goal. There is nothing worse for a parent than losing a child. The tragedies are all the more devastating when they are a preventable injury. Things like fires, falls, drowning and car crashes. It’s a child not buckled up correctly in a car seat. It’s an 8th grader with headphones hit by speeding driver or a bicyclist hit by a teen driver who wasn’t required to have adequate on-the-road practice time.
It is a great honor that two of our PSAs, “Moment of Silence” and “Bubble Wrap,” won 2014 Telly Awards, one of the premier awards honoring the finest in film and video production. We are thrilled to be recognized at this level, because it helps bring more attention to the issue of child injury prevention.
Both videos were created by Safe Kids’ video director Kris Hixson, whose vision helped make each project a success.
