With the weather warming up and summer vacation getting closer, we can all expect to see our neighborhoods fill up with kids riding their bikes, roller skates, scooters and skateboards. But how many of those kids will be wearing helmets while riding? What about other protective gear like elbow and knee pads or wrist guards?
Partnership advances equity in child passenger safety and bike safety
Washington, DC – Safe Kids Worldwide and AAA’s Auto Club Group Foundation are proud to announce a new partnership to advance equity in child passenger and bicycle safety. Safety Reminders as Kids Go “Back to School”
– However They Go Back
As many normal activities have continued to require careful consideration as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, parents are now challenged with “back to school” and what that means for their children and their families.
We know there is a lot to manage during this time, and it can feel like there is very little in your control. But whether your child will be attending school at home, in-person or a combination of the two, we want to help make sure they stay injury-free.
Global Road Safety Week was from May 4-10, 2015. Safe Kids Worldwide took part in the UN #SaveKidsLives campaign, which included delivering the Child Declaration on Road Safety to policy makers. We enlisted the help of our local coalitions to get signatures for the Declaration. One coalition went above and beyond, adding an amazing 4,000 signatures to the Child Declaration. Kim Karpovich of Safe Kids Union County, NC won our domestic contest for the most signatures. It is such an amazing accomplishment, and we’re so proud of the work Kim and her team has done.
What an amazing week!
To raise awareness for the 500 children who die every day on the world’s roads – that’s one every three minutes – we participated in the United Nations Global Road Safety Week’s #slowdown campaign placing a special focus on how speed impacts the safety of children.
At Safe Kids Day in Palm Beach County, FL, a young middle school boy in a bright red Safe Kids Day shirt greets guests and passes out My High 5 booklets. He shows them where to get in line to pick out their free bike helmet. The boy has some difficulties speaking and seems shy. His mom explains how they began volunteering for their local Safe Kids coalition. One day, he fell off his bike, was not wearing a helmet, and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
