The Start Safe: Fire program was designed to make it easy for fire service professionals to work with preschool teachers to share important fire and burn safety lessons with young children. You can use Start Safe: Fire in any childcare, preschool or other program serving children ages 3-6.

Start Safe: Fire has lots of tips and tools for parents and caregivers to help keep kids safe from fires and burns at home. Start Safe: Fire will help your family make a home escape map, practice family fire drills to learn how to get out if there is a fire, and prevent fires and burns at home every day.
National Fire Prevention Week spans from October 6-12 this year. The theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Every day, at least one child dies from a home fire and every hour about 14 children are injured from fires or burns.
As someone very familiar with kitchen fires (check out this blog), I am glad to see that the focus this year will be on kitchen safety. From experienced chefs to those of us who struggle making popcorn, it’s important to remember safety tips for in the kitchen.
