I am nominating Mrs. Butler for America's Favorite Crossing Guard for many reasons. Mrs. Butler is so friendly, to the students of Grindstone Elementary School, to their Parents and to the staff who work there. It is so refreshing to see her smiling face first thing in the morning and the last smile as you leave work, for the day. Passerby and those in cars get their daily dose of smiles and waves too. Mrs. Butler joins in the fun and participates in every Holiday, by dressing up and amusing the children.
Mrs. Fawcett is a Community Resource Officer for Ogden City Police Department. She recruits, interviews, hires and trains crossing guards. She also is a crossing guard when she needs to be. She also coordinates a does Bike and Pedestrian Safety Assemblies for the Elementary Schools. She trains volunteers that help her throughout the year with Bike and Pedestrian Rodeos. This year, she served approximately 900 children in the community with the help on 1 staff and 118 volunteers.
Mr. Skaza is an amazing crossing guard! He has been a crossing guard at Three Oaks Elementary for many years. Mr. Skaza takes pride in his role at our school by ensuring the safety of our students and parents walking to and from school.
Mrs. Ruhl, who is 89 years young, has been a crossing guard for over 11 years! Her love for "her" kids as she calls them has gotten her up and going every morning and back to Foothill School every afternoon each week. Past students come by the school just to say hi, give her a hug, and let her know how much they appreciate her. Mrs. Ruhl just retired this September, and she is so grateful for her time with the kids and great families she has met over the years.
By popular vote, "Mr. Bob" is hands down America's Favorite Crossing Guard. In any kind of weather, students will find him ready and waiting to take them across the state highway 28 towards Van Derveer Elementary School. Mr. England arrives early and stays passed his call of duty so that he can assure that all parents and students have a safe arrival to and from school. Mr. England goes beyond making sure our students are safe. He also makes sure the sidewalks are swept, leaves are raked and ice is cleared on a blustery day. None of those responsibilities are in his job description.
I am thrilled to be able to tell you about our school crossing guard Mrs. Robertson. You will never meet a more positive and encouraging staff member than her. Despite some recent difficulties in her own life including the death of her husband and some health issues for her, Mrs. Robertson is a shining light for the children at Carpenter. Mrs. Robertson goes above and beyond each and every day. She uses her own limited resources to help feed and clothe children in our building.
Mr. O'Brien is a crossing guard at Scenic Hills Elementary School. He has held this position for over five years but recently has had to take a break from being a crossing guard because he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Mr. O'Brien has always struggled with health related issues but the cancer has ultimately made him extremely weak but despite the struggles he is encountering, he plans on returning to his crossing guard duty once he is healthy.
