One Last Summer Splash for Labor Day
With the calendar flipping to September, it’s just about time to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. But before we watch the leaves turn and see stores offer pumpkin spice everything, we still get to celebrate Labor Day weekend! Here are a few tips to help you and your family have a safe and fun holiday weekend.
Pool Safety Tips and More
- Getting in one last trip to the pool? Make sure someone’s watching the kids at all time, without being distracted. Keep young children within arm’s reach of an adult, and make sure older children swim with a partner every time. If you haven’t already, now’s a great time to print out your very own Water Watcher card.
- Know what to do in an emergency. Learning CPR and basic water rescue skills may help you save a child’s life. Plus, enrolling in a class to learn CPR can help you get a jump start before the pools open back up next summer.
- If you’re planning to grill with the family this weekend, make sure to declare a 3-foot “kid-free zone” around the grill for all children and pets. Keep matches and lighters away from children, and make sure someone’s always supervising. You can find more safety tips here from our friends at the National Fire Protection Association.
- This is a great weekend to play some pickup sports with your kids. Be sure they’re staying hydrated and drinking 10 gulps of water for every 20 minutes of play.
- Finally, as much fun as the long weekend might be, it’s back to school time. However, your kids get to school, whether by walking, riding the bus, carpooling or biking, here are some tips to make sure they get there safely.
From all of us here at Safe Kids, have a great Labor Day!
