Make Thanksgiving Cooking Safer blog

Here are 5 reminders to help you make Thanksgiving cooking safer for you and your family

Grilling Safety Blog

My dad has always loved big shiny toys. Cars, grills, televisions and tools never fail to bring out his inner child. However, he has never cared much for big owner’s manuals. In fact, he can hardly be bothered to read the heating instructions on frozen dinners, much less read the small novels that come with most electronics today.

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to experience the world as a toddler again? I, for one, have gotten so used to being an adult that I completely take for granted how enormous the world must seem to little kids.

Keep your kids safe in the kitchen from burns

When my oldest son, Terrell, was 2 years old, he was quite the little terror – I mean angel. Like many kids, he was super busy and got into everything. One day he gave me a scare when he climbed a stool by the counter in our kitchen and grabbed my mug of hot tea. I’m talking right out the kettle, super-hot tea.

Baby in high chair ready for the holidays

Over the river, through the woods, down the highway and off on a plane we go. Holiday travel season is here and it’s an extra special one for me because it’s my baby’s first Thanksgiving. Not only are we travelling to Grandma’s house, but we’re off to aunts’, uncles’ and cousins’ houses as well – at least I don’t have to do the cooking this year.

Fire Safety in the Kitchen

We would like to thank Amy Lebeau, the senior project manager for public education at the National Fire Protection Association, for guest authoring this blog.

Fire Safety

National Fire Prevention Week spans from October 6-12 this year. The theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Every day, at least one child dies from a home fire and every hour about 14 children are injured from fires or burns.

One of the things that inspires me to find creative and fun ways to keep kids safe every day is knowing that there’s a whole world of people working together to do the exact same thing. Once you see these videos created by our fabulous partners in Brazil, you’ll know what I mean.
